Subject: The Jamie Anderson Newsletter Date: Friday, January 31, 2003 11:06 AM From: TsunamiInc@aol.com To: Here's another edition of the often interesting and occasionally odd Jamie Anderson newsletter! You are on this list because you signed my mailing list at a concert or otherwise asked to be added. If you'd like to be deleted or if your address will change soon, let us know at tsunamiinc@aol.com. Please don't forward jokes, news items, virus warnings or petitions. I love personal notes from fans, though, and try to answer every email. Feel free to forward this newsletter to your friends, especially if I'm going to be performing in their area. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Table of Contents ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1. Tour schedule 2. Welcome and general blabbing ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hey y'all! I'm very excited about Women in Harmony happening again this July. It's a music camp for women of all musical abilities. I hope you can come! There's more information below. Florida was cold - who KNEW they had winter? Sure, it only lasts for two weeks but did it have to be during the time I was camping at an outdoor festival? At least it warmed up on the last day and at least folks came, wrapped in their winter coats. I had no idea that Floridians even owned ear muffs and mittens. Last weekend's gig in Cary with The Therapy Sisters was a blast. Ninety-five people showed up, making it a full house! Speaking of duos and local performances, tomorrow night (February 1) I'm playing with Wishing Chair at the ArtsCenter in Carrboro. You HAVE to hear the fabulous duo who had the audience at the National Women's Music Festival jumping out of their seats TWO years in a row (and they're back this year). They also played and sang on my latest album Listen so we'll be doing some of those numbers at the show. DON'T MISS THIS CONCERT! Details are above. Coming up at the end of February, I'm playing in Hawaii (hey, it's a tough job but SOMEONE has to do it), then I go to the West coast. More details above. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 3. February classes ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Classes are open to all adults; you don't have to be a Duke student. For registration, contact Duke or the ArtsCenter. For more about class content or to register for private songwriting lessons, contact me: tsunamiinc@aol.com. Private songwriting lessons in Durham Wednesday afternoons and evenings. tsunamiinc@aol.com Getting Gigs, ArtsCenter, Carrboro, February 13, www.artscenterlive.org, 919-929-2787. For musicians who want to gig and get paid for it. We'll cover finding venues, talking with bookers, putting together publicity, negotiating with venues and getting the gig! Telling Your Own Story, Duke Short Course, Durham, February 16, 1-4 pm, www.learnmore.duke.edu/shortcourse/index.html. Through games and exercises, you'll explore some of your memories as inspiration for composing meaningful songs lyrics and/or using it in other kinds of creative work, such as journal writing, storytelling, non-fiction or fiction writing, or visual art. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 4. Bay area show needed - house concert? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have Saturday, March 8, open on my west coast tour. I'm looking for house concerts or other performance opportunities. If you live in the bay area (San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, etc.) and think you can get 20 or more of your friends to come to your house or other space, contact me! tsunamaiinc@aol.com. I do have a couple of possibilities but in case they fall through, I'd like something else. Don't worry if you've never done a show before, I've worked with a lot of first-timers. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 5. Want free tickets to a show? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm looking for people to post flyers and otherwise spread the word about upcoming shows. In return, you'll get a free ticket to one of my shows. If you live in Hawaii (Maui or Oahu), Olympia, Santa Cruz or Eugene and want to help, write tsunamiinc@aol.com. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 6. Outvoice Music chart - please vote! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Outvoice is a wonderful website devoted to gay music and includes a monthly chart. "Listen" charted at number 6 for January! Please vote for Listen so I can chart next month too: www.outvoice.net. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 7. National Women's Music Festival discounts ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You know how I love this festival! Not only did they have the good taste to book moi again (with a band!!) but they've got a stellar line-up this year, including Wishing Chair, Kara Barnard, Deidre McCalla, Alix Olson, Ember Swift, Lucie Blue Trembley, the Indianapolis Women's Chorus, Sabrina Matthews, and that's just who I can remember off the top of my head. There are four days of music, workshops, choral music, and much more. You don't want to miss this event! You can get a discount if you buy your tickets early. Send an early-bird deposit of $100 postmarked by February 28, 2003 and receive $10 off a full festival pass. Your deposit not only saves money on your festival pass, but also helps to generate income during their traditional "cash crunch" time of year. Pull out your checkbook, make your $100 check payable to NWMF, and mail to P.O. Box 1427, Indianapolis, IN 46206-1427, or call 317-927-9355 with your credit card information. Check the web site for more information (www.wiaonline.org/nwmf). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 8. Women in Harmony ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Whether you're a shower singer or a full time musician, you'll enjoy the community at Women in Harmony! Held from July 11 -13, 2003 at a camp in the beautiful mountains near Asheville, North Carolina, this event offers a fun and supportive atmosphere for women of all musical abilities. This isn't your ordinary music event - it's like scout camp for adults. The focus is on creating community and culture, not in being audience members and watching others make music. We are the music! Elaine Townsend and I are teaching workshops (songwriting, guitar, drum, harmony singing and others), plus there are song circles and jam sessions for beginners through intermediate players and singers. You'll get delicious meals and a furnished cabin room or a camping spot. The camp is beautifully forested with a pond for swimming and lots of places to relax. More information about the facility, including photos, is at www.starcamp.com. Our 2002 event was a great success with women from six states attending. We had a wonderful time and we'd love for you to join us in 2003! For more information, contact Elaine Townsend, elainetownsendsc@yahoo.com, 404-627-6163 or check http://www.jamieanderson.com/harmony.htm. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 9. The Ending Quotes ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Some of the signs seen at the DC rally for peace, January 18 and 19, 2003: These colors don't run the world. Who would Jesus bomb? Resistance is fertile. (With photos of Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld) Asses of Evil. War is expensive, peace is priceless. Don't Arm a Son of a Bush Don't do it, George, Dad will still love you. The last time we listened to a Bush, we wandered in the desert for 40 years. Because of this rally and so many others, I'm feeling hope. Maybe even Bush will change his mind. Keep making noise, people, and as always, pray for peace. -- Jamie Jamie Anderson Singer - Songwriter - Parking Lot Attendant *** Touring nationally for over 15 years *** http://www.jamieanderson.com and http://www.mp3.com/jamieanderson 4201 University Dr., Ste. 102, Durham, NC, 27707 tsunamiinc@aol.com Order Jamie's recordings!
