Welcome and general blabbing ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Wow, what a tour I had in Hawaii and the west coast.Ê The islands are truly one of the most beautiful places on earth.Ê I went to the beach.Ê A lot.Ê I did some hiking in a rain forest on Oahu, ate authentic Hawaiian food (where I discovered that I don't like poi any more than grits) and met lots of nice folks. Some of you may have heard of the passing of early women's music performer Ginni Clemmens.Ê I attended her memorial service on her favorite beach on Maui.Ê She will be missed by so many. The west coast was fab too, even if it was chilly.Ê (Hawaii ruined me for weather, what can I say?)Ê Turnout was low at most San Francisco area gigs except for Sebastopol (bless Monica Grant and her band of merry followers).Ê My guess is that the economy and (then) impending war kept people away.Ê Either that or I sucked last time I was there.Ê Oh, the gig in Berkeley was well attended but I can't take credit for that.Ê With great performers like Barbara Higbie (who did this amazing duet with her piano teacher) and Ronnie Gilbert (who performed a loving tribute to Ginni Clemmens), I can't say they all showed up for this folksinger. Concerts in Oregon were great with audiences just a bit whacko.Ê (What do they put in the water there?)Ê One of my fans brought a photo of her kitchen wall that sported lyrics from one of my songs.Ê She insists she's not a stalker.Ê Uh huh.ÊÊ Tret Fure and I worked it out so we could both perform in Portland and Eugene on the same nights.Ê In Portland, she very generously did my sound and let me use her credit card machine, refusing when I offered to pay the bank charges.Ê Support her work, she's a good one.Ê Her new CD "My Shoes" is out now.Ê www.tretfure.com I also played in Washington, including one of my favorite venues, Traditions CafŽ in Olympia.Ê Great food and great crowd! I'm trying hard not to get down about the war.Ê It's heartening to see so many work for peace.Ê Maines for president!Ê Speaking of that, in the quotes section at the bottom are a few signs that were seen at a peace rally. I'm headed to the midwest next.Ê In May, I'll be on the east coast with Girls Gone Funny - Dierdre Flint and Carla Ulbrich.Ê Hope to see you at a show! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 3. Do you live in KS, MO or IL and want me in your living room? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I've got a couple of weekend dates open.Ê If you've got a living room or other space that seats 20 or more, e me: tsunamiinc@aol.com.Ê I'd love to do a show in these places: April 20: southern IL or eastern MO (not St. Louis) April 25: Kansas City, eastern KS or eastern Nebraska (not Omaha) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 4. Free songs at website ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now you can download several of my songs and an MP3 player from my website: www.jamieanderson.com.Ê Free, nada, for nuthin'.Ê There are also three songs atÊ www.mp3.com/jamieanderson.Ê And speaking of my website, most of my newsletters are archived there. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 5.Ê If you're getting duplicate copies of my newsletter ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sorry 'bout that.Ê It's something AOL is doing and I can't correct it.Ê I've thought about going with a service like Yahoo but don't want the ads.Ê To get an ad free service would mean paying for it and unfortunately, it's not in the budget of this enormous little record company I call mine. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 6. Acoustic Guitar Article ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In the April edition of Acoustic Guitar is an article by moi about song circles.Ê It's not available on the web but you can pick up a paper copy at most music and bookstores. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 7. Don't' give up!Ê www.moveon.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you want peace, don't give up!Ê www.moveon.org has lots of good ideas. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 8. Women in Harmony ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's happening again!Ê Women in Harmony is a music camp for women of all musical abilities.Ê It's July 11 -13, 2003 at a camp in the beautiful mountains near Asheville, North Carolina.Ê Check out the movie and photos of last year's event at http://www.jamieanderson.com/harmony.htm.Ê (Thanks to AJ Wolf for making the movie and to Mary Hocks for posting it.) Women in Harmony is like scout camp for adults only we won't make you clean latrines. Elaine Townsend and I are teaching workshops (songwriting, guitar, drum, harmony singing and others), plus there are song circles and jam sessions for beginners through intermediate players and singers. You'll get delicious meals and a furnished cabin room or a camping spot. The camp is beautifully forested with a pond for swimming and lots of places to relax. More information about the facility, including photos, is at www.starcamp.com. If ten or more members of your chorus are interested in coming, you can get a discount! Our 2002 event was a great success with women from six states attending. We'd love for you to join us in 2003! For more information, contact Elaine Townsend, elainetownsendsc@yahoo.com, 404-627-6163 or check http://www.jamieanderson.com/harmony.htm.Ê If you can help distribute flyers, contact me at tsunamiinc@aol.com. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ 9. Requests ~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm happy to do requests at my shows but know that my memory bites.Ê If there's a song you want to hear, it's best to e me ahead of time (tsunamiinc@aol.com) so I can run through the song before I'm front of an audience.Ê Tell me what show you'll be attending.ÊÊ Ask me to sing someone else's song and I'll pummel you with an organic carrot.Ê Oh sure, you'd like that. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 10. Who is that woman?! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here's a photo of me at last year's pride celebration in my hometown of Durham, NC: www.ncpride.org/pride/history/2002/slides/2002_slide080.html ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 11.Ê The Ending Quotes ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ These sayings were seen at the March 15 peace rally in San Francisco: So Many Signs and Bush Can't Read Code Pink: Preemptive Compassion We're Here, We're Queer, We're Not Invading Anywhere We Are the Coalition of the Unwilling Re-Defeat Bush in 2004 Freedom is as Freedom Fries We Will Bring Democracy to the Middle East and Florida Our Dog Has More Diplomacy Skills Ethel for President Finally We Have the Moral, Intelligent Leadership We've Been Waiting for - It's in France And to that I'll add - Support Our Troops, Bring Them Home.Ê Okay, I'd better stop or I'm gonna hear from my mother.Ê Keep working for peace everyone and don't forget to vote for Ethel. -- Jamie Jamie Anderson Singer - Songwriter - Parking Lot Attendant *** Touring nationally for over 15 years *** http://www.jamieanderson.com and http://www.mp3.com/jamieanderson 4201 University Dr., Ste. 102, Durham, NC, 27707 tsunamiinc@aol.com Order Jamie's recordings!
