I'm writing to you all from a *lovely* motel room somewhere in Louisiana. I-10's melodic hum serenades me, the carpet *almost* matches the thin bedspread and I hope whoever painted this room last is now happily working in some other profession. The Hilton was already booked. Hey all! I hope this little tome finds you well and with plenty of chocolate close by. On my recent West Coast tour, I had the pleasure of performing for some fine folks. The crowds were a little small in some places. Maybe next time everyone could clone themselves? Or bring 100 of your closest friends? Seriously, please keep in mind that word of mouth is a great way for people to find out about my shows. Thanks to Twyla in Newport, OR, for the great massage. It was very generous of her to fit me into her busy massage schedule at the last minute. I'd give you her last name and the name of her business (so you can experience her work too) but I left all that info at home and my memory fails me right now. Hey, I turned 40 last year. Be nice to me. It was great to share the stage with a few other performers. In Davis, CA, I opened for Barbara Higbie and Teresa Trull. I've been a fan of theirs for quite some time -- ever since their first duo album that was released in the early 80's. Barbara has a gorgeous expressive soprano voice and she plays the hell out of the piano and violin, er, fiddle. Add Teresa's stage-presence- for-days and you've got a great show. In Portland, I opened for Cosy Sheridan, a wonderful singer-songwriter who's well-known on the folk circuit. She covers a lot of the same topics I do, in fact she joked about not being able to do half her material once I got off the stage. Uh, sorry Cosy. Hey, at least I didn't do a song about a yeast infection. If you ever get a chance to hear any of these performers, do check them out. (And ask Cosy to play "Turbo Yeast.") Tell them Jamie sent ya. Speaking of gigs -- I've got some cool festivals coming up. It's probably too late for most of you to get to the wonderful Gulf Coast Women's Festival since it started today. I'm on my way there. I'm also performing at the fabulous Campfest on Memorial Day weekend. In addition to my musical set, there'll be a surprise or two. On May 25, Memorial Day, I'm performing at the Kerrville Folk Festival. For those of you who don't know, this is one of the largest folk festivals in the country and to say I'm thrilled to perform there is a gross understatement. They rarely book out gay performers and I have to tell you that this little queer folksinger is a *little* nervous. This festival isn't exactly Bubbafest but it is out in the desert in central Texas. So if you live near Kerrville, TX (that's close to San Antonio and Austin), and even if you don't, please consider going. Sit in the front row and say soothing things to me, okay? Meet me later with a case of wine. Okay, forget about the wine. Just try to come, okay? Before I post the tour schedule, I'd like to leave you with a thought that I like so much, I've got it on my bulletin board at home where I can see it a lot. I've been told that it's Vietnamese wisdom: In hell, people have chopsticks a meter long so they can't feed themselves and starve. In heaven, the chopsticks are a meter long but the people feed each other. May we all continue to feed each other. Here's the tour schedule. For more information, email us at tsunamiinc@aol.com.
