Welcome to another edition of that whimsical tome full of misspellings and gramatical errors, The Jamie Anderson Newsletter. You're on this list because you signed the mailing list at a concert or emailed us and requested to be added. If you'd like to be removed, write to us at tsunamiinc@aol.com. Feel free to forward this newsletter to your friends, especially if they live in the areas where I'm touring. __________________________________ IT'S OUT!!!! Sorry for the yelling but it's not every day a gal gives birth to a bouncing baby CD. "Drive All Night" was born February 23 and damn were those corners tough. I'm really proud of the release and I think you'll like it too. It has many of the songs you've heard me do in concert including "Feel" (or that song with the breaths, as a couple of you have called it), "I Wanna Be A Straight Guy," (my answer to Louden Wainwright's "I Wanna Be A Lesbian"), "Mama Come Quick" (about children and guns) and lots more! I borrowed a couple musicians from Paula Cole's touring band (guitarist Kevin Barry and bassist Richard Gates), well-known musicians from the folk world like slide guitarist Brooks Williams and vocalists the Burns Sisters, as well as Joyce Zymeck (from Justina and Joyce) and more. You can get Drive All Night at one of my concerts, at women's bookstores, gay bookstores, independent record stores (look in the folk section), Ladyslipper (800-634-6044), chain record stores (like Tower and Borders) and on line: www.goldenrod.com www.ladyslipper.org Thanks to everyone who made this release possible! It was wonderful to get your encouragement in the mail. In addition to the investments and pre- orders, I recieved some sweet notes, even some lovely computer artwork. I am blessed. If you pre-ordered the CD, you'll get it soon. All orders will be mailed special fourth class on March 3. Sorry but there's been a delay with the tapes so they may not go out until the end of March. ____________________________________ Big Fun in the South I had two fabulous gigs in February -- on the 19th, I performed at the University of Memphis to a warm crowd. After the show, I went out with some of the organizers. We had appetizers and drinks at a wonderful place called (I think) On the Grove. It's gay owned and features the coolest artwork. Every surface -- tables, chairs, walls, ceiling and floor -- was a painted work of art. Colorful people and places jumped out from every surface. If I lived in Memphis I'd be there all the time. I also went out for barbeque while I was there. Hmmm-mmmm-mmm. I do love good barbeque. Durham, my new home, is supposed to have good barbeque but I haven't had the pleasure of sampling it yet. It's gonna have to be pretty damn good to top Memphis barbeque. Enough drooling over food -- I also had the pleasure of performing in Conway, AR. Now, I must admit I had to look at a map to find the small town. It's just a little north and west of Little Rock. There are several colleges in the area (three?/ I drove past the Baptist college and I played at Hendrix College. The audience was so attentive! Often, when I play at a college, especially in a student center, I get a noisy audience that drifts in and out. Not this crowd. I loved performing for them. ________________________________________ The Folk Annoyance Conference Actually, it's the Folk Alliance and not annoying at all although I would have preferred getting more sleep. See, it's a gathering of people involved in folk music. Most people are from the US and Canada although there's a fair representation of other countries. There are workshops and showcase concerts galore. I did a bunch of showcases, including one at 2:30 AM. Yawn. I facilitate the gay peer group every year and this year's group was really on fire!! Yeehaw. We talked about our experiences as gay performers, radio DJ's, sound engineers and bookers. We also planned a gay showcase for next year's conference in Cleveland that's gonna kick some serious butt, given the talent in that room. I also had lunch with a bunch of DJ's from Folk DJ (a listserv). If you'd like to see a picture of all of us, look at http://folkradio.org and click on the group photo link. I'm somewhere in the middle. If you'd like more information about the Folk Alliance, you can write to them at fa@folk.org. ______________________________________ Reviews I'd love to get some reviews of the new album for my press kit. Keep in mind that many small publications are looking for reviews by folks like you. You don't have to be a professional writer. There's a large publication, The Lesbian Connection, that accepts reviews too but you have to be a subscriber (and a lesbian). ________________________________________ Web Page I have a web page but I'm having trouble getting it up at AOL. Hopefully, the problems will be worked out soon or you'll hear about me in the news: Lesbian Folksinger Throttles AOL Technician With Floppy Disk. _________________________________________ Tour, Tour, Tour!! As always, contact the venue to confirm details before the show. If you're wondering why I'm not playing in your hometown, write to me. It may just be that I don't know who to call in your area. Or maybe you'd like to consider producing a show yourself?
