From: TsunamiInc@aol.com Date: Thu, 29 Apr 1999 16:36:58 EDT Subject: The Jamie Anderson Newsletter To: DakotaAZ@aol.com Yep, it's another edition of that rambling wiseass newsletter. You're getting this post because you signed my mailing list at a concert or emailed me and requested to be added. If you'd like to be deleted, simply write to us at tsunamiinc@aol.com. Feel free to forward this newsletter, particularly if you know someone in any of the cities where I'm performing. Please don't forward jokes, petitions or virus warnings. There's almost 600 of you now and if each of you forwarded me something, I'm sure AOL would shut down for the week. However, personal messages are always appreciated and I try to answer every one. ___________________________________ Welcome to all the new folks! Many of you signed my mailing list on my midwest tour. And what a tour it was, thirteen gigs in two and half weeks. I think I set a record. The gigs were varied -- everything from a tiny gay center in Rockford, IL to a nice Unitarian Church in Indianapolis. I had the pleasure of working with many fine folks, including some who only had a couple weeks notice to put together a concert. Amazing. Some of you traveled so far to hear me! Special thanks to the women from Columbus who traveled to my Cincinnati and Dayton gigs. Gee, I guess I should play in Columbus, eh? Thanks also to those of you who just crossed the street -- I appreciate you too. Heck, if I had enough money, I'd give you all toaster ovens. You probably own quite a few already though. Thanks to everyone who suffered through hearing me when I had a bad cold. You were all so kind, wishing me well and buying CDs as if I'd actually sounded good. I stayed in a few motels and I stayed in community housing where I was provided with homemade chicken soup, gifts of cough syrup and lots of time left alone so I could sleep. Now that I'm almost done coughing, I'm home from touring, a hot cup of ginger tea by my side and a scrawny sweet kitty in my lap. She's rather annoyed that I've got my fingers on this keyboard rather than her, but she'll get over it. Maybe. ______________________________ Newsletters now archived! The Jamie Anderson Newsletters are now archived at my web site, http://www.jamieanderson.com. Just hit the "newsletter" link. I know I mentioned this last month but since there are so many new people, it bears repeating: I highly recommend the server that hosts my web site. You can reach the webmaster, Matt Baya, at mbaya@svaha.com. Everyone at svaha is great and they'll do their best to work with you. ______________________________________ Drive All Night on Charts! The CD is number 6 on the latest Outvoice charts and "With My Smile" is number 3 on the tracks charts! If you'd like to vote, here's how: Send your choices to outvoice-votes@QueerNet.ORG to have them counted toward this week's chart. The weekly deadline is Saturday night/Sunday morning 12:00 midnight Pacific Time. You can vote for up to 10 Albums & 10 Tracks... please remember to put them in order with your most favorite at the top of the list. BTW, Outvoice is a great listserve that focuses on queer music. _____________________________________ Eden Built By Eves This fabulous book written by Bonnie J. Morris is a very comprehensive text about women's music festivals. (If you don't believe me, look at the quote on the back cover!) There are chapters about festival culture, interviews with performers, techies and others involved in putting on festivals, quotes from festie goers, tons of great photos and some cartoons. There's a few pages about moi, as well as a couple of photos and a cartoon. There's my work, among that of Alison Bechdel and Kris Kovick ... makes me wanna go take a class to learn how to draw people, ya know? The book is a STEAL at $15.95 and I highly recommend you all run out and buy it. I'm sure it's availalble at all the usual places but if you can't find it, go to the Alyson Publications website: www.alyson.com. Eden Built By Eves: The Culture of Women's Music Festivals, by Bonnie J. Morris, Alyson Publications Inc., ISBN 1-55583-477-9 ____________________________________________ Car Talk Airplay The good folks at Car Talk did it again! They played "Drive All Night" on show number 9915 which was aired for the first time in most markets on April 10. You can see it listed at their website at cartalk.com. It's a very funny website, BTW. They played "Midnight Alice" from "Never Assume" a couple of years ago. Damn but those people have good taste. Feel free to tell 'em so! _______________________________________ New Website and Sound Clips Harmony Ridge Music, a company specializing in music by women, now carries "Never Assume" and will soon carry "Drive All Night." They put up a website that features my work -- it includes sound bites too! You can visit the site at http://www.hrmusic.com/discos/fafram15.html. The site will be updated soon. Don't forget that you can also purchase my recordings from Ladyslipper and Goldenrod! There are links at my website. ____________________________________ Queermusic.com I just discovered a new website that features lots of great info about gay music: www.queermusic.com. They have a new CD-ROM that you can purchase that is the most comprehensive encyclopedia of gay music that I've ever seen. You can view samples at the web site. ____________________________________ Cherokee Some of you asked about the song by Anne Weiss that I performed on my midwest tour. It's on Anne's CD "Tomorrow's Gate" and you can order it directly from her at PO Box 15281, Portland, OR, 97293. CDs are $17 and tapes are $12. If you'd like to talk with her, you can reach her at likapika@aol.com _____________________________________ Tour, Tour, Tour Some of you have asked why I don't tour to some parts of the country. Usually, it's because I haven't had any luck with existing venues or because I don't know who to contact. If you know about a great venue in your city, I'd love to have the name, email address and/or phone number. Unfortunately, I had to cancel the Worcester, MA, date in July but there are plenty of new dates. As always, contact the venue to confirm the details before you set off for the concert.
