From: TsunamiInc@aol.com Date: Tue, 29 Jun 1999 17:16:22 EDT Subject: The Jamie Anderson Newsletter To: DakotaAZ@aol.com Greetings from the bright green of summer in Durham! This is another edition of the Jamie Anderson Newsletter. You are on this list because you signed up at a concert or emailed us and asked to be added. If you'd like to be deleted or if you're changing addresses soon, write to us at tsunamiinc@aol.com. Please don't forward jokes, virus warnings or petitions but do send personal notes. I try to answer every one. ___________________________ I've been home most of June, booking my fall tours, writing new tunes and learning the fine southern art of evening porch sitting. I've enjoyed watching the night settle in on my tree-lined street and the fireflies dance around my house. If I'd seen little lights flying around my house in Tucson, I would've called the authorities to report a UFO but Dorothy, we aren't in Kansas anymore. I did one performance in June, at Womonfest, near Cincinnati. The event took place on a beautiful piece of land that featured lots of animals (including a zebra!) and many more women. I learned something important at this festival: bellydancing on a steep hill is a dangerous thing. Don't try this at home kids. ______________________________ Michigan Michigan Michigan YES I will be at the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival, although I'm not officially booked to perform there. Look for me in the Goldenrod booth. While I'm there, I'm thinking of setting up a guerilla concert. Heck if they won't book me officially, I'll figure out something else. Look for my brightly colored flyers posted everywhere for the time and place. Also, I'll try to get in at the August Night Cafe (open mic). The Michigan Womyn's Music Festival has never booked me even though I've toured nationally since 1987. I've sent them audition material every year since 1990. If you'd like to request that they book me, either on your evaluation form or in separate correspondence, I would greatly appreciate it. Many other festivals have been very generous in booking me. The National Women's Music Festival, the second largest women's music festival in the U.S., has booked me five times since 1990. Kerrville, one of the biggest folk festivals in the country, has booked me twice. ________________________ Dr Demento "I Wanna Be A Straight Guy" was featured on the Dr. Demento show on June 20th! This syndicated radio show appears on approximately 100 stations. My song was played right after Louden Wainwright's song "I Wish I Was A Lesbian," the tune that inspired mine. Thanks to everyone who went to the website to request my song, I think it really made a difference. If you'd like to see the playlist for yourself, or if you'd like to request any of my songs (the doctor has my last three releases), feel free to do so. http://php.indiana.edu/~jbmorris ____________________________ Billboard!!! My photo and a few words about my work was featured in Billboard magazine on June 19. This internationally-known magazine is the bible for the music industry and getting mention in it was a mucho big deal. Next thing you know, I'll be in a VH-1 Diva special. Think Shania Twain would do a duet with me? ____________________________ Crossroads Magazine Not as well-known, but just as important in my eyes, is Crossroads. Like Billboard, they feature charts based on airplay and retail sales. Drive All Night is number 25 on the Folk Chart for June/July. Groovy, eh?! There's also a compilation CD in the latest issue that includes my song "Feel." For more info, you can reach them at crossroads@xrm.com. _____________________________ Outvoice Thanks to your votes last month, Drive All Night topped the Outvoice album chart for June 6 -- 12! And three of my songs held the number one, three and four slots on the tracks charts. Remember there's a new chart every week so you can vote once a week. Vote at the website: www.outvoice.org. All of these charts (Outvoice, Crossroads, Folkdj-l) really help to boost my career. It may seem like a bunch of silly numbers but I can copy them for my press kit and give it to folks who might book me or give me radio airplay. ________________________ Rosie O'Donnell Show A fan wrote a couple of weeks ago and said she'd sent a tape of "Mama Come Quick" to the Rosie show. Rosie, as most of you know, feels very strongly about children's access to guns. Me too, as you can hear in my song. Wouldn't it be very cool if I was booked to sing the song on the show? If you want to help me out, let Rosie know about my song. Sorry, I don't have her address handy but I'm sure you can find her website with a good search engine. ____________________________ Tour, tour, tour All of my July gigs are in my new home state of North Carolina.
