You are on this list because you signed my mailing list at a concert or wrote to me and asked to be added. If you'd like to be deleted or if your address will change soon, please let us know at tsunamiinc@aol.com. Please don't forward jokes, virus warnings or petitions. I love personal notes from fans, though, and try to answer every email. Feel free to forward this newsletter to your friends, especially if I'm going to be performing in their area. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Table of Contents ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1. Welcome and General Blabbing 2. Look Ma, I'm a famous author 3. Illegal music on the web 4. Women's Week in Provincetown 5. MP3 6. The lesser of two evils 7. New Hope, PA gig 8. Tour, Tour, Tour ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Welcome and General Blabbing ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hey everyone! A grand welcome to all those who are new to this somewhat entertaining and never brief tome. I had some groovy gigs in September, including the Ohio Lesbian Festival with guitar and mandolin goddess Kara Barnard. Whoo wee, her fingers were a mere blur on the fretboard most of the time. We'll be doing more gigs together. So far, we're scheduled for two next year. I had a chance to do some performances close to home, like the Borders in Cary, NC, where I didn't get kicked off stage even though I did my sure-fire-bound-to-offend-someone song, "Menstrual Tango." Guess it all depends on who's listening. The large group playing cards right next to the stage sure didn't notice, even when I was insulting them. Hey, at least they were worth a few jokes. I'll be back at the Borders in Cary December 8. Please come but if you play a noisy card game near the stage, I'll be mean to you. I also had the pleasure of playing in Fuquay-Varina, NC, and in Delaware for their state NOW conference. This month I'm touring in MD, NY, PA, and MA. See the tour schedule at the end for more details. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Look Ma, I'm a famous author ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have a chapter in the recently published book Songwriting and the Guitar, published by String Letter Publishing (the same folks who put out Acoustic Guitar). My section is called "Songwriting Traps and How to Avoid Them." Others featured in the book include the Indigo Girls, James Taylor, and Patty Larkin. I'd say I'm in damn fine company and I have to tell you that this little folk singer's heart goes pitty pat thinking that Ms. Larkin, queen of guitardom and my hero, might be reading my little chapter. If you're a songwriter and a guitarist, you need this book. It's full of great information and interesting articles and I'd tell you that even if I was in it. Heck, even if you're not a musician, you'll enjoy the interviews. You can order the book from Music Dispatch at 1-800-637-2852. It'll also be available at my gigs and in finer music and bookstores every where. Oh and the chapter will appear as an article in an upcoming issue of Acoustic Guitar. I'm also writing some more articles for them. You can get the magazine in most music stores or at www.acousticguitar.com. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Illegal music on the web ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I recently found a site that featured my songs, as well as many others, for free download. I have songs up on MP3 that are free for folks to listen to but it was rather disturbing to find several others on this site. I wrote the webmaster and received a polite response. The site was taken down. I don't mind when folks feature songs for which they've received permission but I make my living doing music and if all my tunes were available for free on the net, I'd never have an income. Please, if you put music on your websites, ask the copyright holders for permission. Most would probably be happy to give it, as long as you provide the proper copyright information. In fact, it's a great way for folks to find out about independent music. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Women's Week in Provincetown ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm performing in Provincetown during Women's Week!!! I know there's a plethora of entertainment options but I hope you'll find time to come to my show. There's more info in the tour schedule below. Tell your friends! For more info about women's week activities, check out http://www.womeninnkeepers.com. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MP3 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MP3 has a cool feature where you can email my songs to friends. Just go to my site, http://www.mp3.com/jamieanderson and hit the "send mail to a friend" button next to the song you want to send. It's way easy. Also at my site is a list of the 23 MP3 radio stations that currently play my songs. Most impressive was one that played only songs about cats (guess which song they chose for that?) and one that features women's music. Check 'em out! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The lesser of two evils ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I've heard a lot of folks say they're voting for Gore because he's the lesser of two evils. Well you know what folks? That still means we get evil. There'll never be a viable third party - or ANY real choice at all - unless we vote for someone who doesn't toe the corporate line. Nader is that person. Since I can't vote for him (thanks to the lovely laws in my home state), I've decided to encourage other folks to vote for him. He's on the ballot in most states. Look at what who we've got to choose from - an overgrown frat boy, a guy who thinks he invented the internet and a guy who's worked as a consumer advocate for 30 years. And his running mate is Winona LaDuke! What else could you want?! There have been several Nader rallies. Over 10,000 people showed up in Minnapolis, Seattle and Portland. That's more than attended the Republican convention and those people had to be there! The folks who came to hear Nader PAID seven dollars each to hear political speeches. Amazing, eh? If you need more information, there's a couple of great websites: www.votenader.org and www.nader2000.org. If you're still nervous about voting for a third party candidate, take Molly Ivin's advice. If you live in a state that is solidly Bush or Gore (like Texas), vote for Nader. What have you got to lose? Whatever you do, get out and VOTE! In most cities, it's not too late to register so you can vote in the next presidential election. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My performance in New Hope, PA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I know I mentioned this in the last newsletter but I've got to do it again. If you're thinking of coming to my concert at Odette's in New Hope, PA, on October 25th, please, please make reservations before the day of the show.
