Delivered-To: mbaya@svaha.com From: TsunamiInc@aol.com Date: Tue, 23 May 2000 18:17:01 EDT Subject: The Jamie Anderson Newsletter To: DakotaAZ@aol.com MIME-Version: 1.0 It's time for another edition of the Jamie Anderson newsletter! You are on this list because you signed my mailing list at a concert or wrote to me and asked to be added. If you'd like to be deleted or if your address will change soon, please let us know at tsunamiinc@aol.com. Please don't forward jokes, virus warnings or petitions. (Incidentally, most virus warnings and petitions are hoaxes. Check http://urbanlegends.miningco.com/, http://www.kumite.com/myth, http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/hoax.html, or http://www.ciac.llnl.gov/ciac/CIACHoaxes.html, for more info.) I love personal notes from fans, though, and try to answer every email. Feel free to forward this newsletter to your friends, especially if I'm going to be performing in their area. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Table of Contents ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1.Welcome and General Blabbing 2. New web site page! 3. Women's Festival Site 4. Women's Music Medley 5. Now Playing 6. Tour, Tour, Tour ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Welcome and General Blabbing ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Well howdy all! I hope your Spring is as enjoyable as mine has been. This newsletter is a little earlier due to my heavy schedule coming up. Be sure to check out the tour schedule at the end of this newsletter. In the next couple of months, I'll be performing in GA, MA, and NC. I'm especially excited to be performing with Elaine Townsend (guitar, percussion and vocals) and Kara Barnard (guitar, mandolin and vocals) at the Southern Women's Festival. And No More Silence may show up to add their dulcet tones on one song. Whoo hoo, I have a band!!!!!! If you're going to be anywhere near Provincetown in June, I hope you and 50 of your closest (no, that's not "closet") friends can come to one of my shows there. These two performances are kind of an audition and if I draw enough people, they'll book me for more shows. Provincetown is very hard to get booked at, BTW, and your help would mean a great deal to my career. Gracias. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ New website page! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There's now a new links page at www.jamieanderson.com. Check it out! In the works is a photo gallery of the last two tours. Keep watching the website. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Women's Festival Site ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here's a cool site I found that might interest many of you. It lists women's festivals of all kinds - music, sports, film, etc., including links to other sites -- http://www.womensfestival.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Women's Music Medley ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Some of you have asked about the women's music medley I've done at many shows this year. Here's a list of the songs. In parenthesis, I've indicated the recording where the original song can be found. Since I couldn't haul my LPs out of storage, I'm not sure about where you can find some of the songs. (Yes, I've taped some of those LPs but often I neglect to write down the name of the LP.) Amazon - Maxine Feldman, (not available, unfortunately) Emma - Therese Edell (From Women's Faces Plus) A Woman's Love - Alix Dobkin (I think this is on Living With Lavender Jane - Therese also sings it on her release) Face the Music (written by Annie Dinerman) - Meg Christian (Best of) Sweet Friend of Mine - Margie Adam (I think this is on her Best of) Song of the Soul - Cris Williamson (Best of and Circle of Friends) Something About the Women - Holly Near (sorry I can't remember which album this is on but I will tell you that my fav Near albums are Imagine My Surprise and Fire In the Rain) Most of the recordings can be found at Goldenrod (www.goldenrod.com) and Ladyslipper (www.ladyslipper.org or 1-800-634-6044. I encourage you to check out this wonderful older women's music! Sorry, the medley does not appear on any of my recordings. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now Playing ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have a couple of new CDs that haven't left my CD player: Wishing Chair, "The Ghost of Will Harbut", www.terrakin.com Wow, wow, wow. Well-written songs crackling with energy, performed as only the very talented Kiya Heartwood (vocals, guitar, percussion) and Miriam Davidson (accordian, organ, congas and vocals) can do. This ain't your usual indie folk release, kids. I've just spent what seems like hours trying to describe this music and I just can't do it. Just go buy this release. Melissa Ferrick, "Freedom,", www.war.com Fresh original songs with the energy of early Melissa Etheridge. I can't wait to hear her at the Michigan festival this year. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Tour, Tour, Tour ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As always, check with the venue before heading out to a show. 5/27-28 GA, Southern Womyn's Festival, gaywomyn@aol.com, www.gaywomyn.org/festival 6/7 Carrborro, NC, performance class begins at The ArtsCenter 6/10 Durham, NC, Gay Pride Festival, NCPride2000@aol.com, www.lgbt.stuaff.duke.edu/ncpride2000.html 6/16 Northampton, MA, 8 pm, Third Wave Booksellers, 42A Green St., http://thirdwavebooksellers.tripod.com, 413-586-7851 6/17 Milford, MA, 1 pm, Bellydance workshop at First Unitarian Church, 23 Pine St., jlk104@massmed.org, 508-651-1447 6/17 Milford, MA, 8 pm, Gathering Place Coffeehouse, First Unitarian Church, 23 Pine St., jlk104@massmed.org, 508-651-1447, 508-473-3589 6/21 Provincetown, MA, 8:30 pm, The Jungle, 135 Bradford St., tropicaljoes@aol.com, 508-487-9941 6/22 and 23 Provincetown, MA, private engagement 6/24 Provincetown, MA, 11:15 pm, The Jungle, 135 Bradford St., tropicaljoes@aol.com, 508-487-9941 6/28 Cary, NC, songwriting class begins at Page Walker 6/29 Carrborro, NC, songwriting class begins at The ArtsCenter 6/29 Carrborro, NC, bellydance class begins at Parks and Recreation 7/1 - 2 Asheville, NC, Camp Pleiades, opening for Vickie Shaw, www.starcamp.com, starcamp@aol.com 7/4 Durham, NC, enofest@gte.net, 919-620-9099 8/8 - 9/13 Hart, MI, Michigan Womyns Music Festival, presenting two intensive workshops and performing at the Triangle Campfire, www.michfest.com 8/18 Decatur, GA, Eddie's Attic, with Carla Ulbrich and Bob Malone, www.eddiesattic.com, 404-377-4976 8/19 Columbia, SC, MCC, with Elaine Townsend 9/9 Cary, NC, Borders 9/16 Fuquay-Varina, NC, Hyphen Coffeehouse 10/17 Northampton, MA, Iron Horse, opening for Cris Williamson 10/20 Utica, NY, KAC Coffeehouse 10/21 Ithaca, NY, Common Ground 10/25 New Hope, PA, Odettes Oct.
