You are on this list because you signed my mailing list at a concert or wrote to me and asked to be added. If you'd like to be deleted or if your address will change soon, please let us know at tsunamiinc@aol.com. Please don't forward jokes, virus warnings or petitions. (Incidentally, most virus warnings and petitions are hoaxes. Check http://urbanlegends.miningco.com/, http://www.kumite.com/myth, http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/hoax.html, or http://www.ciac.llnl.gov/ciac/CIACHoaxes.html, for more info.) I love personal notes from fans, though, and try to answer every email. Feel free to forward this newsletter to your friends, especially if I'm going to be performing in their area. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Table of Contents ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1.Welcome and General Blabbing 2. A quote ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Welcome, etc. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Welcome to all the new folks on the list! Dang but did I have fun playing for y'all. First there was sweatfest, er, Southern Womyn's Music Festival, on Memorial Day Weekend. Aside from the blistering weather, I had a great time. It was quite interesting when the generator on the main stage broke down and I emceed without a microphone. I'd like to say because of my extensive vocal training that I was able to pull that one off but really, it had more to do with an audience who paid attention. My musical set the next night was a blast (especially since the generator was working). Kara Barnard joined me on guitar, mandolin and voice and dang, can that woman COOK. No More Silence, an excellent a cappella group from Florida joined me on "A Family of Friends." Such a pleasure to perform with all these women. (Elaine Townsend was supposed to join me but unfortunately, came down with a cold and wasn't able to attend.) My next gig was at NC Gay Pride where I WAS THE OFFICIAL BATON TWIRLER FOR THE OFFICAL PRIDE MARCHING BAND!! Uh, not that I was excited about that or anything. What a thrill to twirl the baton in front of a real marching band! In fact, I had so much fun in the 90+ degree weather that I was too wiped out to do my musical slot. I may have had heatstroke, I dunno, whatever it was couldn't be placated with gallons of water and shade. My Massachusetts tour was next. I had the pleasure of performing in several venues, including the women's bookstore in Northampton and a friendly coffeehouse in Milford (Gathering Place). Later in the tour found me in Provincetown, frolicking on the women's beach (did I really just type "frolicking?") and doing a couple of performances. Thanks to everyone who came to my club gig at The Jungle. I hope to perform there again since it's one of the nicer places in town. I also played at the Golden Threads gathering. Golden Threads is a social group for lesbians over 50. What spirit! I loved doing the gig and what an inspiration to meet so many older women. Ruth Ellis, age 100, was there. I saw her burnin' it up on the dance floor more than once If you're a lesbian over 50, I highly recommend this group. You can reach them at Goldentred@aol.com. I'm laying low this month and just doing a couple of gigs in North Carolina. In August, I'll be at the Michigan Women's Music Festival. There's a tour schedule toward the end of the newsletter. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ New Web Page Photo Gallery ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's up! Those of you who saw me on my Spring tours might remember that I had a camera with me. You can see the photos now at my website. Even if you weren't on that tour, you might enjoy seeing pictures of my audiences (check out the "good" and "evil" sides of the Cincinnati crowd), and photos of some of the musicians with whom I shared a stage (Cris Williamson, Suzanne Westenhoefer, Angela Motter, Mimi Baczewska and Amy Ray. Oops, I didn't share a stage with Amy, I dated her. KIDDING). Just go to http://www.jamieanderson.com/ and click on the photos link. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Contest ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ All right, here's a chance to answer questions about ME (the subject I know the most about ) and win fabulous prizes. There are two ways to win - you can give the most correct answers or you can give me the funniest answers. Don't worry if you only know the answer to a few questions. You may still be a winner. Here's the scoop: Deadline: July 12 Only those on this mailing list are eligible. It doesn't count if someone forwarded the contest to you. One entry per person First prize for the most correct answers: Jamie Anderson CD or tape of your choice, AND an Oasis Acoustic Music Sampler (an excellent double CD that features one of my songs as well as songs by Zoe Lewis, Jane Voss, Trout Fishing in America and lots more) Second prize for the most correct answers: Oasis Music Sampler First prize for the funniest answers: Oasis Music Sampler and your answers in the next newsletter I know this sounds like a bad TV ad but the Oasis Sampler is not available for sale anywhere, so this is a gonga prize. Southwest ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A quote to end: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "If you dream of a world in which you can put your partner's picture on your desk, then put his picture on your desk and you will live in such a world. And if you dream of a world in which you can walk down the street holding your partner's hand, then hold her hand and you will live in such a world. If you dream of a world in which there are more openly gay elected officials, then run for office and you will live in such a world. And if you dream of a world in which you can take your partner to the office party, even if your office is the U.S. House of Representatives, then take her to the party. I do, and now I live in such a world. Remember, there are two things that keep us oppressed: them and us. We are half of the equation. There will not be a magic day when we wake up and it's now OK to express ourselves publicly. We must make that day ourselves É" -- Lesbian U.S. Rep.
