Delivered-To: mbaya@svaha.com From: TsunamiInc@aol.com Date: Wed, 28 Feb 2001 12:42:45 EST Subject: The Jamie Anderson Newsletter To: DakotaAZ@aol.com Here's another edition of the banal but entertaining Jamie Anderson newsletter! You are on this list because you signed my mailing list at a concert or wrote to me and asked to be added. If you'd like to be deleted or if your address will change soon, please let us know at tsunamiinc@aol.com. Be kind and keep in mind that a real, feeling person answers your email. Please don't forward jokes, news items, virus warnings or petitions. I love personal notes from fans, though, and try to answer every email. Feel free to forward this newsletter to your friends, especially if I'm going to be performing in their area. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Table of Contents ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1. Welcome and general news 2. Looking for venues in the Midwest 3. All request tour 4. Do you know of a literacy program for women? 5. Amy Ray at Southern festival! 6. Acoustic Guitar article 7. Tour, Tour, Tour 8. The ending quote ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1. Welcome and general news ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hey everyone! Welcome to yet another tome where I blab endlessly, without care for the vagaries of grammar, about my music and whatever else strikes my over inflated musician's brain. This month I stayed close to home, playing two fun gigs - one at the wonderful Hyphen Coffeehouse (how I wish there was a place like this in every town) and one at the Borders in Greensboro. Special thanks to the guy with the booming voice at Borders who did a solo in one of my songs and didn't even know it. His companions didn't realize it either, applauding when I asked the audience to praise the soloist. He complimented my music after the show even though he and his friends talked through the whole thing. The real heroes at my last two gigs were the folks who encouraged their friends to come. Special thanks to Jesse in Greensboro who promised to get even more people out to the next show. It's fans like him who keep my career going. I said goodbye to one of my songwriting classes last night. I hate teaching the last class! I'll be teaching again in June and July. Speaking of classes, if you live in the San Francisco area, look for the workshop on funny songs that I'll be teaching in Berkeley on my March tour. I'm cheap and fun, I mean, it'll be cheap and fun. I'm also teaching at WoMaMu in California in April (Judy Fjell's fabulous music empowerment weekend for women), at the National Women's Music Festival in Indiana in June, Camp Pleiades in North Carolina in July, and at the Michigan Women's Music festival in August. Details in the tour schedule below. I'm gearing up for a whole slew of March gigs on the west coast. In the Spring, I head for the midwest. See the tour schedule at the end of the newsletter. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2. Looking for venues in the midwest ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I've got some free dates on my Spring tour. Are you a member of a group who might want to bring me in to perform? Do you have a living room big enough to seat 20 or more? Always wanted to have Jamie Anderson perform in your town? Here's your chance! I have these dates open: April 13, 15 - 19, Indiana or Illinois April 23 - 25, Indiana or Ohio April 26, 27, Illinois, Minnesota or Iowa April 29, 30, May 1,2, Iowa, Minnesota or Illinois May 7, 8, Illinois or Indiana May 10, Illinois May 13, Missouri If you've never produced a concert before, don't worry, I've worked with a lot of first timers. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 3. All request tour ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'll be doing a lot of requests on the upcoming tours. Email your requests now! Anyone who wants to hear a song written before 1989 will be pummeled with finger picks and chocolate wrappers. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 4. Do you know of a literacy program for women? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My song "When They Know Who We Are" is featured in a workbook to help women learn to read English. It's published by Action Read, a community literacy center in Quebec. If you know of a literacy program that's looking for such a resource, I highly recommend this book because of it's focus on diversity and empowerment. For more information, contact them directly at actionr@golden.net, www.home.golden.net/~actionr, 519-836-2759, 2 Quebec St., Ste. 220, Guelph, ON, N1H 2T3, Canada. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 5. Amy Ray at Southern Festival! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Women, if you've been dragging your feet about buying tickets to the Southern Women's Music Festival, well, hesitate no more. In addition to the fabulous lineup they already had, they've added Amy Ray. Whoo hoo! For more information: www.gaywomyn.org/festival. BTW, I'm performing there with the FABulous Kara Barnard. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 6. Acoustic Guitar article ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have an article about song contests in the latest edition of Acoustic Guitar (April 2001). Look for the magazine in music stores and bookstores. Subscription information is at www.acousticguitar.com. It's a great publication for anyone who plays guitar and I'd tell you that even if I wasn't in it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 7.
