Delivered-To: mbaya@svaha.com From: TsunamiInc@aol.com Date: Wed, 19 Sep 2001 14:16:08 EDT Subject: The Jamie Anderson Newsletter To: DakotaAZ@aol.com MIME-Version: 1.0 Status: RO Here's another edition of the somewhat eloquent but occasionally sloppy Jamie Anderson newsletter! You are getting this because you signed my mailing list at a concert or wrote to me and asked to be added. If you'd like to be deleted or if your address will change soon, please let us know at tsunamiinc@aol.com. Be kind and keep in mind that a real, feeling person answers your email. Please don't forward jokes, news items, virus warnings or petitions. I love personal notes from fans, though, and try to answer every email. Feel free to forward this newsletter to your friends, especially if I'm going to be performing in their area. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Table of Contents ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1. Opening message 2. Listen 3. Baby Dykes book 4. Tour, tour, tour 5. Ending quotes ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1. Opening message ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This newsletter is a little earlier than the usual end-of-month delivery because I'm leaving on tour tomorrow. What a last couple of weeks it's been. I hope that you and your friends and family are safe. I've been talking to friends in NYC. Thank god for the internet since long distance phone service there is spotty. The ending quotes deal with the tragedies, especially as it pertains to gay folks. I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir here, but do what you can to help out - give money, time and energy to the folks who need it. And take care of yourselves. Turn off the news once in a while. Take time for something that you find relaxing - snuggle with your honey, read a good book, eat some chocolate, write, sing, dance É None of my confirmed gigs have been canceled, even the one for New York City. In times like this, we need music and comedy. My DC gig, which was tentative anyway, was canceled but I hope to be there sometime in the next few months. Soon I'll be in PA, NY and New England. I'm sharing bills with some fine performers including Angela Motter, Leah Zicari, SheWho, Vance Gilbert, Bernice Lewis, Martin Swinger, Robert Urban and others. There's a tour schedule at the end of the newsletter. ~~~~~~~~~ 2. Listen ~~~~~~~~~ The album is recorded and goes to the duplication facility tomorrow. It should be out in November. I think you'll really like this release - I'm very proud of it. Keep an eye on my MP3 page (www.mp3.com/jamieanderson) because soon there'll be a couple of cuts from the new album. I'm also updating my regular web page soon (www.jamieanderson.com). While I had enough funding for the production of my new album, I'm still a little short for the promotion. It may seem odd to be asking for funding at this time but I think it's important that I keep going with this album. Coming to my shows will help. You can also assist by cutting and pasting the form below, and sending us a check. It's too late to thank you in the album credits but you can get other groovy stuff for helping me out. ******* Help make "Listen" a reality! Baby Dykes book ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ While I was browsing the crafts area at Sisterspace (great festival!), I found "Baby Dykes" by Shelly Roberts (Alyson Publications, www.alyson.com). My gf opened the book right at a page that features a charming little cherub that looks like É. hey it's me! I'd completely forgotten about giving the author my baby picture a few years ago. It's a cute book, full of lesbians in their tot years. My favorite is the bathing suit section. You gotta see this book. Check out the website or your favorite independent bookstore. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 4. The ending quotes ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jerry Falwell, speaking on September 13, 2001 during a broadcast of the 700 Club, about the tragedies that happened on September 11: "The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way - all of them who have tried to secularize America - I point the finger in their face and say you helped this happen." On September 14, on CNN, he said: "I would never blame any human being except the terrorists, and if I left that impression with gays or lesbians or anyone else, I apologize." Perhaps he should read a transcript of what he actually said. National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Executive Director Lorri L. Jean responded: "The terrible tragedy that has befallen our nation, and indeed the entire global community, is the sad byproduct of fanaticism. It has its roots in the same fanaticism that enables people like Jerry Falwell to preach hate against those who do not think, live, or love in the exact same way he does," she said. "The tragedies that have occurred this week did not occur because someone made God mad, as Mr. Falwell asserts. They occurred because of hate, pure and simple. It is time to move beyond a place of hate and to a place of healing. We hope that Mr. Falwell will apologize to the U.S. and world communities." Even other conservatives are angry with Falwell. Look what Rush Limbaugh said: "For the most part this terrible event has brought out the best in Americans. Citizens of all walks of life have come closer together. But there are some, unfortunately, in which this disaster has brought out the worst. Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson and the Reverend Jerry Falwell are two such individuals. ** text edited** "All I can say is I was profoundly embarrassed and disappointed by their comments. They can try to take them back all they want, but the bottom line is that their words are indefensible." Maybe the man has a brain after all. If you want to thank Rush, you can contact him at mailto:rush@eibnet.com or call his show between 12 Noon and 3PM Eastern Time at: 1-800-282-2882.
