Subject: The Jamie Anderson Newsletter Date: Wednesday, January 2, 2002 2:03 PM From: TsunamiInc@aol.com To: Here's another edition of the somewhat boastful but often humble Jamie Anderson newsletter! You are getting this because you signed my mailing list at a concert or wrote to me and asked to be added. If you'd like to be deleted or if your address will change soon, please let us know at tsunamiinc@aol.com. Be kind and keep in mind that a real, feeling person answers your email. Please don't forward jokes, news items, virus warnings or petitions. I love personal notes from fans, though, and try to answer every email. Feel free to forward this newsletter to your friends, especially if I'm going to be performing in their area. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Table of Contents ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1. Opening message 2. Opening Message ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Happy New Year everyone! May your 2002 be full of good things. If you've heard my song "Forever Family" you know that my brother was a sperm donor to a lesbian friend and her partner. They had the baby last year and named her Jamie. I finally got to meet her last month! She's adorable and loves music. I told her moms that they should call me when she's about six and big enough to hold a half size guitar. And on the other end of the generational scale, my gf's 90 year old grandmother is staying with us for a couple of weeks. What a joy she is. Sharp as a tack and a helluva gin rummy player. Funny, too. We took her with us while we were car shopping and she commented that one of the sales guys talked so much it made her hearing aid beep. Listen received some great press in late November and early December. Billboard mentioned my "… solid songwriting and engaging stage presence," and the Washing Blade said, "Listen is a refreshing escape from the typical women's music genre and is definitely worth a listen." Whoo hoo!! You can see both reviews at my website - just click on the reviews link. (Since the site is being updated now, you may not be able to read the articles for a day or two. Please try back.) Also, it was number one on the Outvoice charts for two weeks in a row - thanks for voting for me! AND one of the songs from Listen, "(I Wanna) Drive" was in the top 40 in folk at MP3 five times in November!! I recently received word that I'll be at the National Women's Music Festival this year. It'll be a special performance with some of the women who helped me record Listen. And the Michigan festival has hired me to teach bellydance again. Still no word about doing a musical performance - feel free to give them a nudge if you'd like to see that happen. There are no performances scheduled this month but on February 2, I'll be doing a big album release party and concert here in NC. I'm really excited about this show - I have a great band, there'll be bellydancing by Eternal Oasis, a baton twirling contest and door prizes for everyone. This is a concert worth traveling for, if I may be brash. Starting in late February, I'll be touring my substantial hiney off. More information on all my gigs is below. (Okay, how DO you spell hiney? My spell check can't find it.) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2. Looking for house concert opportunities in CA, OR and WA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you have a living room or other space that will seat 20 or more and you live in one of these states, I'd love to talk with you. Be a part of my street team and get a free CD ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I need some help getting the word out about my new album Listen. You can help. Email information about my music to a few friends, post on a website or two, plus request me for some big events and you'll get a free Jamie Anderson CD of your choice. It's easy to do - you'll get complete instructions including contact information - and it won't take much time out of your day. This is a contest too - the person who does the most work also gets a Lsten t-shirt! Contest deadline is February 15. For more information, write to us at tsunamiinc@aol.com. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 4. Outvoice - you can still vote for Listen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Outvoice has a great website and listserv for anyone interested in lgbt music. They have a top 40 chart too. Please vote for Listen! www.outvoice.com You helped me get to the number one spot twice in December. Please help me do it again! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 5. Live on the radio January 28 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ JD Doyle, of Queer Music Heritage, will interview me on January 28 at 9 pm CST. It'll be broadcast live on the net: www.kpft.org. For more info about the show: www.queermusicheritage.com. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 6. Do you have a Hotmail account? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Someone told me that anything blind copied may not be getting to Hotmail users. If you have a Hotmail account and you are getting my newsletters, please let me know. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 7. Request Listen for the Dr. Demento show ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is a nationally syndicated radio show aired in many cities. Since there are two funny songs on Listen ("Potato Chips" and "I Miss the Dog"), it's possible he'll give me airplay. It might help to get a nudge from my fans: www.demento.com - click on the request button. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 8. Updated website! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Last month my website underwent a major overhaul. There's a new home page, bio, classes page, an extended links page and lots of new photos in the photo gallery, including pictures taken in the studio while we were recording Listen. This month I've added a page featuring the recent reviews from Billboard and the Washington Blade. (If you don't' find this page right away, please check back - the update is happening right now.) www.jamieanderson.com BTW, all my recent web work was done by Motherwit Design. I highly recommend them: www.motherwit.com. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 9. You can hear Listen at these bookstores ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My new album will be in listening stations at the following bookstores in January: Madison, WI, A Room Of One's Own, 307 W. Johnson St Minneapolis, MN, Amazon Bookstore, 4432 Chicago Ave S Austin, TX, BookWomen, 918 W. 12th Street Ann Arbor, MI, Common Language, 215 S Fourth Ave Cambridge, MA, New Words, 186 Hampshire St Chiacago, IL, Women & Children First, 5233 N Clark St ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 10. The National Women's Music Festival still needs you! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The non-profit National Women's Music Festival has seen donations drop off considerably after September 11. If things keep up this way it could mean the end of the festival. While it's important for you to contribute to the organizations helping folks affected by the tragedies, it's also vital that we keep women's festivals alive. You can send a check, made payable to Women In the Arts, to PO Box 1427, Indianapolis, IN 46206-1427 and remember, it's tax deductable. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 11. Lesbian Herstory Archives ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is a wonderful library about lesbians with lots of resources including my CDs. They're also a non-profit, in case you're looking for a great way to support lesbian culture. Check out their site: www.datalounge.net/network/pages/lha. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 12. Bellydance ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you're looking for a good bellydance instructional tape, I highly recommend one from my teacher Kathryn Ferguson: www.azstarnet.com/~anubis/mideast.htm. If you're lucky enough to live in Tucson, you can take classes from her. Folks living in the triangle cities area of NC can take classes from Shazaadee (Shelly Eppling), another good teacher: shahzaadee@yahoo.com. She also organizes dance performances including one I was in one a few months ago. For a photo of the dancers: www.ncbellydance.org/Evening_Oasis.jpg. I'm in the second row, far right. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 13.
