Subject: The Jamie Anderson Newsletter Date: Wednesday, February 20, 2002 2:50 PM From: TsunamiInc@aol.com To: Here's another edition of the hopeful and wordy Jamie Anderson newsletter! You are getting this because you signed my mailing list at a concert or wrote to me and asked to be added. If you'd like to be deleted or if your address will change soon, please let us know at tsunamiinc@aol.com. Be kind and keep in mind that a real, feeling person answers your email. Please don't forward jokes, news items, virus warnings or petitions. I love personal notes from fans, though, and try to answer every email. Feel free to forward this newsletter to your friends, especially if I'm going to be performing in their area. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Table of Contents ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1. A little blabbing to begin ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hey everyone - this newsletter is a little earlier than the usual end of the month since I'll be leaving on tour soon. Wow, what an album release concert and party I had in Carrboro earlier this month! We had a full house - almost a hundred people - and I had a great time. The band was awesome, adding some volume and crunch on several tunes. Along with my songs we did a Viva la Venus song, "Meatloaf Night," that I'm gonna do at a few of my solo shows this year. (Figures that I would choose the song that mentions food.) The bellydancers were gorgeous (Eternal Oasis - shahzaadee@yahoo.com), the baton twirling contestants hysterical and if that wasn't enough, y'all sang with me on a couple of numbers. Folks, it doesn't get any better than this. Most of the rest of this month I've been getting ready to tour. I'll be on the west coast in late February and in March, and in the midwest in April. Sorry, my Lawrence, KS gig has been canceled but a lot of other dates have been added. I'm really excited about the shared bills I'm doing with Wishing Chair, Kara Barnard and Susanne Mulcahey 'cause they were on my new album Listen. Check out the details below. I'm thrilled about Women In Harmony, a women's music camp that I'm organizing along with Judy Fjell and Elaine Townsend. More info below. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2. Want Jamie Anderson in your living room? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I've got some holes in my midwest tour. If you've got a living room or other space that holds 20 or more, I'd love to talk with you (tsunamiinc@aol.com). Here's what I have open: April 7 Michigan or Ohio April 12 Illinois or Wisconsin (Madison or Milwaukee areas) April 19 Ohio or Kentucky (Louisville) April 26 Iowa or Minnesota Those are just the weekends. If you think you can do something on a weekday, give me a holler. For more info on house concerts: www.darrylpurpose.com/etc/house.htm ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 3. Women In Harmony music camp for women ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I am one of the facilitators for an exciting new music camp for women. It's a fun and supportive retreat for women of all musical abilities. The focus is on creating a musical community, but not as audience members -- we are the music! Women In Harmony will be held July 26 - 28 at beautiful Camp Pleiades in the mountains near Asheville, NC. (www.starcamp.com) There'll be workshops (songwriting, guitar, improv, singing, dance), song circles and jam sessions for beginners through intermediate players and singers. Judy Fjell, Elaine Townsend and myself are teachers. The event is based on Judy Fjell's successful west coast camp Women Making Music (WoMaMu). For more information and to register, contact Women In Harmony, c/o Elaine Townsend, PO Box 973, Columbia, SC, 29202, elainetownsendsc@yahoo.com, 803-791-7606 or check www.jamieanderson.com or www.judyfjell.com. A $50 deposit holds your place. Registration is $225 to $300 sliding scale if paid by June 28. This fee includes delicious meals, all activities, cabin accommodations or tent space, and full use of the beautiful grounds including a swimming pond, hiking trails, and hammocks. Whether you're a shower singer or a professional musician, we hope you can join us! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 4. Unofficial website ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A fan has put up an unoffical Jamie Anderson website with my blessing: www.geocities.com/womynofletters/jamieanderson.html On it you'll find a few things not on my official site including some old press and photos. You can see what I look like with big hair and that alone oughta make your visit worthwhile. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ 5. Requests ~~~~~~~~~~~~ My memory is so bad my gf has to remind me of her name on a regular basis. So, if you request a song at a concert that I haven't played in the last couple of weeks, chances are pretty good I won't remember it. However, if you send me an email ahead of time (tsunamiinc@aol.com) and tell me what show you'll be attending, I'll do my best to rehearse the song and do it at that show. If you request songs by other performers, I will pummel you with an organic carrot. Oh sure, you'd like that. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 6. Stupid White Men ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is the title of Michael Moore's new book. He's the guy who's responsible for some of my favorite movies and TV shows: "Roger and Me," "TV Nation," and "The Awful Truth." I haven't read the book but it's bound to have more of his usual witty comments on US politics. www.michaelmoore.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 7. Letter in the Lesbian Connection ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There's a letter from me in the latest issue of the Lesbian Connection, a newsletter by and about lesbians. It's a fabulous grassroots publication that features letters from readers. I've subscribed since the 70's and I love it. If you're a lesbian and are interested in getting the LC, you can write to them at elsiepub@aol.com. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 8. Outvoice - please vote for Listen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Please vote for Listen! www.outvoice.com Listen has been in the top 10 for several weeks and I'd love to stay there. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 9. Chicago Free Press review ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There's a nice review of Listen at www.chicagofreepress.com/021302/music.html ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 10. Southern Belles Raising Hell ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is a an exciting compilation CD that will benefit Ladyfest South, a festival featuring women performers from all over the south. They're including my song "(I Wanna) Drive" as well as cuts from Michelle Malone, Danielle Howle, Tami Hart, The Butchies, Halcyon, Doria Roberts, Angela Motter, Alix Olson and many more. Starting March 8 this double CD can be purchased from www.cdbaby.com or www.ladyslipper.org. Beginning in April, you can get it at one of my shows. Proceeds go toward producing the festival in October and will be donated to a worthwhile organization after that. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 11.
