Subject: The Jamie Anderson Newsletter Date: Thursday, August 1, 2002 9:35 AM From: TsunamiInc@aol.com To: Here's another edition of the somewhat ordinary but occasionally enlivening Jamie Anderson newsletter! You are on this list because you signed my mailing list at a concert or wrote to me and asked to be added. If you'd like to be deleted or if your address will change soon, please let us know at tsunamiinc@aol.com. Be kind and keep in mind that a real, feeling person answers your email. Please don't forward jokes, news items, virus warnings or petitions. I love personal notes from fans, though, and try to answer every email. Feel free to forward this newsletter to your friends, especially if I'm going to be performing in their area. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Table of Contents ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1. General stuff 2. If you got the last newsletter more than once 3. Photos 4. Survey again 5. Net radio airplay 6. Do you work for a company that could sponsor a tour? 7. Get your Listen t-shirt this month 8. Placement in song contest! 9. Michigan Women's Music Festival 10. Tour, Tour, Tour 11. The Ending Quote ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1. General stuff ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's been in the 90's here in North Carolina, leading me to believe that I never left the desert except for all these trees here. And water, at least some of the time. We're still officially in a drought but we've gotten a fair amount of rain in the past couple of weeks, making my garden a luscious green. Roma tomatoes anyone? I'm thinking I could've planted them next to the peppers so they could cross-pollinate, making it real easy to make salsa. I've been at home most of the last month, playing locally at the Six String Cafˇ and at Festival for the Eno. The cafˇ gig was a benefit for Independent Animal Rescue, a great organization that rescues unwanted pets and finds them new homes. We raised over a thousand dollars! The festival gig proceeds go toward a good cause too - to buy land along the Eno River, to keep it from being developed. This last weekend was Women in Harmony. Hot damn did we have a good time! Women from six different states joined Elaine Townsend and me at Camp Pleiades, a camp in the beautiful mountains near Asheville, NC. We had workshops on guitar, singing rounds, storytelling, songwriting, bellydance, mandolin and drum. And we sang. A lot. Everything from the Beatles to old camp songs to "Menstrual Tango." It was like Girl Scout camp for adults only the food was better and we didn't have to wash dishes. Soon, I hope to get photos up on my website AND a short documentary. Yep, we've even got video. Keep an eye on this newsletter and my website for news of next year's Women in Harmony. In August I'll be at the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival. September will bring a Southern mini-tour and a gig in Los Angeles. More below. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2. If you got the last newsletter more than once ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My apologies. AOL burped big time last month (send Tums) and some of you got multiple copies of the newsletter. The bad news is I can't do anything about it. The good news is, it shouldn't happen often (if ever again). Thanks for your patience. ~~~~~~~~~ 3. Photos ~~~~~~~~~ If you have any photos taken at my performances (they don't have to be of me), please email them to tsunamiinc@aol.com or snail mail: Tsunami Recordings, 4201 University Dr., Ste. 102, Box 417, Durham, NC, 27707. I'd like to put some of the photos on my website and maybe in a photo album. Thanks!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 4. Survey again ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thanks to everyone who returned the survey last month! You've all been entered in the CD drawing. In one place of last month's newsletter the address of where you should send the survey was wrong. (Uh, is that sentence grammatically correct? Hey, I'm a musician, not an editor.) So, here's the survey again. ****If you've already returned the survey, please don't send it again.**** If you haven't sent one in yet, here's your chance! If you get it to us by August 5, you'll be entered in the CD drawing. Cut and paste the form below. Answer the questions and mail to tsunamiinc@aol.com. Your name will be added to a drawing to receive a free Jamie Anderson CD. Ain't that cool? Deadline is August 5. And don't worry - your name and address will not be added to any mailing list, this is information that will be used only by Tsunami Recordings. A. Net radio airplay ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Several of my songs are in heavy rotation (i.e., they play them a lot) at http://www.live365.com/stations/wizardfkap, especially on the Sunday singer-songwriter show. Check it out! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 6. Do you work for a company that could sponsor a tour? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm currently trying to put together a tour that will feature several out lesbian folk performers. The only way to be able to pay everyone is to get sponsorships. I've had some nibbles from a few corporations but it's hard so I'm thinking that if I had some help from inside the company, it'd be a ton easier. I don't want anything from alcohol or tobacco companies and while outright financial help is really what we need, a trade for services or goods would be welcome too. If you work for a company (or indeed, own a company) that might consider sponsoring a tour like this, please contact me: tsunamiinc@aol.com. Thanks! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 7. Get you Listen t-shirt this month ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You might have seen these shirts at my concerts earlier this year and neglected to buy one or maybe you haven't made it to a show but still want to be clothed in the most attractive way. Fill out the form below, and mail with your check or money order to: Tsunami Recordings, 4201 University Dr., Ste. 102, Box 417, Durham, NC, 27707. ___ periwinkle/lavender t-shirt, $15 each _________ ___ M ___ L ___XL ___ 2X ___ black, $15 each _________ ___ L ___ XL ___ 2X ___ 3X add $2 shipping/handling for each shirt _________ Total enclosed _________ Name_______________________________________________ Address_____________________________________________ City__________________________ State ____ Zip__________ E address___________________________________________ Orders to US addresses only, please. Placement in song contest! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My song "Drive All Night" placed in the top ten percent of the over 4,000 entries received by the Unisong International Song Contest. Cool beans, eh? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 9. Michigan Women's Music Festival ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I am teaching several bellydance workshops at the festival. I'll also be working for Goldenrod - look for the big pink booth in the crafts area. I'll be in the listening booth behind the main booth. If you want to discover some new music, I'm the babe to see. And yes, we'll have that new Jamie Anderson CD. As many of you know, I've never been booked to perform at this festival and I'd love to appear on one of their stages. If you could put in a good word for me on your evaluation forms, I'd sure appreciate it. If you forget, or if you don't go to the festival, you can write to them at PO Box 7430, Berkeley, CA, 94707. Even though I won't be playing music on stage, look for me at the Triangle fire after the Saturday night stage is over. I'll probably do what I did last year and perform in a round robin with a couple of other musicians. There's also a good chance I'll be bellydancing on stage, possibly in the Sunday Night Candlelight concert and with a band on day stage. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 10.
