Subject: Jamie Anderson Newsletter Date: Monday, September 30, 2002 10:18 PM From: TsunamiInc@aol.com To: Here's another edition of the sometimes mundane but often lively Jamie Anderson newsletter! You are on this list because you signed my mailing list at a concert or wrote to me and asked to be added. If you'd like to be deleted or if your address will change soon, please let us know at tsunamiinc@aol.com. Please don't forward jokes, news items, virus warnings or petitions. I love personal notes from fans, though, and try to answer every email. Feel free to forward this newsletter to your friends, especially if I'm going to be performing in their area. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Table of Contents ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1. General blabbing 2. Ending quotes ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1.General Blabbing ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hey everyone! Wow, what a month it's been! I had a fab mini-Southern tour! Why has it been so long since I toured in the south? You can bet I won't wait five years for the next time. I learned valuable stuff on this tour, like, they think a lot about sex in Memphis, in Tupelo it matters who your people are (it's a Southern thing) and in Pensacola, there are several Superfund sites. I made sure I drank bottled water. I only hope it didn't come from Phoenix. (Hey, stop it. I grew up there and I know what it tastes like - something drained out of the neighbor's swimming pool.) On September 21 I had one of the best gigs of my life opening for Kate Clinton at the Ford Amphitheater in Los Angeles. Just before the show, I was a little annoyed to find a group of people blocking the way to my dressing room. My annoyance disappeared when the promoter introduced me to Melissa Etheridge. Think I could put '"Well, hello Jamie Anderson" - Melissa Etheridge' in my press kit? Usually big stars like that have their people call the concert producer's people to get free tickets to any show. She bought tickets, bless her heart. Fortunately, I couldn't see her from the stage or I'm sure I would've forgotten how to play the guitar. And no, I did not do my parody of "Bring Me Some Water." Kate was fabulous! And very gracious also. Backstage she thanked me for opening the show, then when she came out for her set, asked the audience, "Wasn't Jamie great?" It was a pleasure to meet both performers - true professionals, for sure. Be sure to catch Kate when she comes to your city: www.kateclinton.com. I'm sure Melissa doesn't need my endorsement for most of you. My computer crashed a couple of weeks ago. I lost a lot of my mailing list. I reconstructed it but I may have missed some additions or corrections. Contact me if have any changes. A couple of days ago I had a great time at North Carolina Pride in Durham. Coming soon I have gigs in NY, PA, MD, DC, NH, ME and VT. In November I head to the Southwest. See the tour schedule below. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2. Pissed about possible war in Iraq? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I am. If you are too, tell your congressional representatives! Check www.congress.org to find out who they are and how to reach them. It really makes a difference. www.moveon.org has some good info too. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 3. I need venues in Salt Lake City, Denver/Boulder and Portland (OR) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Do you live in any of these cities? I'm looking for venues with a listening crowd (no noisy bars please). House concerts are good too provided the room seats 20 or more. E me at tsunamiinc@aol.com if you think you can help. Gracias. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 4. Cute animal story contest ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Y'all know how crazy I am about my critters. I want to hear about yours. Send me a story about something cute or amazing that your pet has done in 100 words or less. The best story wins a Jamie Anderson CD of your choice. The top three stories will be published in upcoming newsletters. Yes, they have to be true stories - no science fiction about how your dog saved the planet from Republicans. You must get the entry in by October 29. Open only to people who are on this mailing list. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 5. Hear my Pensacola concert on the web! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Go to www.radiolive.org to hear the show I did there on September 5. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 6. Song requests ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My memory sucks the family dog out loud. If you have a song request, I'd be happy to take it at a show but it's better to email me ahead of time. Tell me the song(s) and what show you're attending. I'll do my best. ~~~~~~~~ 7. Photos ~~~~~~~~ If you have photos taken at my concerts (they don't have to be of me), I'd love to see them. E photos to tsunamiinc@aol.com (send small pictures please) or mail: 4201 University Dr., Ste. 102, Box 417, Durham, NC, 27707. If you emailed me anything before September 18, they were lost in the crash. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 8. Airplay on Dr. Demento ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dr. Demento recently played "I Wanna Be A Straight Guy." For more information about this syndicated humor show or to make a request: www.drdemento.com. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 9. House Of Mews ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When I was in Memphis, I stumbled House of Mews. Silly me, I thought it was a gift shop for cat lovers but when I stepped in, I was surrounded by a hundred curious felines. I spent so long there one afternoon, petting and brushing the kitties, that the woman staffing the place threatened to make me a volunteer. I told her it'd be a long drive from Durham. If you live in Memphis, visit and maybe adopt a cat from House of Mews. No matter where you live, you can donate money or just find out more about them: www.houseofmews.com. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 10. I'm in the Journal of Lesbian Studies ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ No, I was not a case study. They printed the lyrics for "Dark Chocolate." See the current issue, Volume 6, number 2 2002. You can find it in a lot of libraries. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 11. Some great concerts in the triangle cities of NC ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Even if you don't live in Durham/Chapel Hill/Raleigh, these shows are worth the drive.
